Letter to Hon Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitleyji

 To
 Hon. Minister of Finance
 Shri Arun Jaitley,
Government of India.
Subject:  Unregulated market of Mobile Accessories
Sir,
Warm Regards. At the outset let me congratulate you for the daring & bold step of demonetization. I am sure that it will give the desired result and wipe out black money to a large extent in our economy. Sir, emboldened by this master stroke step executed by your kind self along with your able team under the dynamic leadership of our Hon. Prime Minister; I wish to bring a very pertinent issue to your notice. Sir, Mobile accessories market is worth around Rs 6000 crores in India (Source Economic times) & is expected to grow by 15-20% every year. The accessories market can easily be twice or even thrice that of smart phones since a customer would typically buy at least two accessory for a phone. However both domestic and foreign mobile accessory companies face tough competition from unbranded products, especially the ones imported from China. Due to large number of mobile accessory manufacturers in China, huge amounts of Chinese products are easily available in the grey markets and local stores. A significant number of consumers find these easily available accessories affordable and attractive. Such accessories are mostly available in grey market without MRP & without bill. Sir, the margins for accessories in grey markets are between 30% and 60%, depending on the accessory, higher than phones that offer about 10%,” However in the absence of MRP there is no regulation in terms of price and also quality of such accessories. The helpless consumer feels cheated primarily as there is no fixed price, no assurance of quality and of course no recourse or remedy in the absence of bill. Furthermore there is a huge loss of revenue to the government as these sales figures are mostly unaccounted.
Sir, besides fishing out black money out of our economy, Consumer Protection is also one of the top most priorities of the government under the visionary leadership of our Hon. Prime Minister.  May I request you to kindly look into the matter so as to bring transparency and accountability as the mobile accessory market is expected to grow hugely in terms of volume & revenue?
Thanking You,
Regards,
Amit Girdhar Heda.
