Unless and until the 'BASICS' are in the right place, all other things would eventually fall into the category of appeasement. Appeasement and wants are mostly desired and cherished by those who are comparatively more privileged. A large majority of the public is daily running pillar to post with strife and struggle to make both ends meet or to sustain the livelihood. As a result after a certain period of time the euphoria diminishes and the 'BASICS' again take the center stage.
Now, what are the 'BASICS'? They are the same that have always been there (in varied proportions): unemployment, inflation, poverty, healthcare. At the end of the day, relief from these 'BASIC' needs will matter. And if there is no relief from these 'BASIC' needs, then naturally people will vote keeping in mind the caste and other factors. If these 'BASIC' needs are resolved or genuine attempts are made to resolve them, then people will vote keeping in mind these and other development issues only.
History has time and again proved that governments fall because of their inability to meet these 'BASICS', and the new regime is given a chance in the hope (because this is what they promise and assure while seeking votes) that they will make these long-due 'BASICS' a reality.
Needless to say, politics of self-goals, sans any ideology and principles, (mis)use of media and institutions of governence at will and as per suitability, corruption, cheap appeasement approach, religious divide while keeping the public interest - aspirations on the last priority list are the absolute roadblocks in even considering forget making a genuine attempt in resolving the 'BASICS'.
Development and other appeasement politics will always take a backseat until 'BASICS' are taken care of.
'BASICS' will always be the 'SUPREME' yardstick.
They say ninety percent nation's wealth is in the hands of 10 percent population. And that is the main reason rich people are getting richer and poor people more poorer. Thus Basic needs of poor people or common men are not fulfilled. These scenario must be changed for the Nation's development.
