Kashmir Files..
The fact that there was (is) great unrest in the valley since decades has not been hidden from any one.
That kashmiri pandits, natives of Kashmir since generations had to leave/flee from there amidst the turbulence where thousands were massacred, tortured and made "political" scapegoats (but was never discussed with as much empathy by the people in other parts of the country) has been effectively highlighted through the movie, drawing attention from all-over. This needs to be applauded.
However, had this been the whole and sole purpose of the movie, it would have been great. But this was not so. Somewhere the movie seems to have an ulterior "political" agenda conviniently suiting the game of political upmanship rather than deligently highlighting the cause of pandits. The makers could have very well avoided glorifying/shaming any specific political outfit by taking names. All the political parties that have been in power in center/state did not wholeheartedly tried to resolve the Kashmir issue but kept on playing political games in some way or the other and that's happening still now. Ditto, the maker's could have taken discretion by not specifically and pointedly targetting a community in totality and yes, also by not tarnishing the image of an educational institution (again in totality) that has acclaimed alumnies nationally and internationally.
A disclaimer in the movie appealing for communal harmony and peace would have been even better. But that could not have been possible as the agenda was apparently biased towards all but one and prejudiced towards one in particular.
Perhaps the overall impact would have been much better, had this been taken care of. But then, probably it's a question of personal and political priorities.
And yes, one pertinent question comes to mind - whatever has been and the way in which it has been portrayed in the movie, will it do any good in resolving (attempt to resolving) the miseries of the pandits and in bringing peace and communal harmony in the valley?
Or will it escalate, reignite and lead to fresh acrimony and hatred further?
